Is it just me, or does anyone else think it’s too much work to say nephews and niece?? My brother and his wife had two boys first, so I had no issue saying my nephews. But when my wonderful niece came along, I found myself saying just nephews, which excluded my niece unintentionally. I then tried my best to say “nephews and niece” as much I could. But there had to be a better way, I thought! So I went on the search for one word that would include them all. I found “niblings” which stands for the kids of my sibling (brother). I love the term and have begun using it despite it being an uncommon word. I think that most are not familiar with the term thought! No matter, I will use it and hope others join me as well! So here I am…asking what YOU think?
Do you have nephews and nieces? Do you think niblings is a good gender-neutral term for them? Let me know in the comments below! And let me know how many niblings you have! I have three :)
