In the Fall of 2018, I finally got up the courage to ask my friend Beth Demme something I had been wanting to ask her for months.
As I wrote my book, Discovering my Scars, I started to think of ways to expand on the book and topics inside. The idea of a podcast sat in my head for a while, but I knew I could not do it alone. Only one name came to mind as my co-host.
The morning I scheduled to meet with Beth I was so nervous. I felt silly expecting this professional woman to say, “Sure, I’ll give up my limited time and record a podcast with you.”
I psyched myself out a few times, but finally quieted my own thoughts and prayed about what to say. God simply told me to ask. To put my dream out there, and she could decide, yes or no, if she wanted to be a part of it.
As Beth drank her coffee and me with tea, we just chatted about life and business. I told her about my book—that it had just gotten approved for publication—and about the next steps for me. I told her I had been thinking of starting a podcast. She talked about her love of podcasts, and thought it was a great idea!
The moment came for me to ask, and before it passed, I just said, “Beth, I really want a co-host and I would love for it to be you!”
That’s a full sentence, but before I got out all the words, she said “yes!” And that was THAT!
Beth said she had been wanting to make a podcast, and has always wanted to work with me on a project. Months of second guessing myself—ending in an instant “yes” from my friend, and now co-host!
We’ve met every two weeks since that time to start planning episode ideas, podcast titles, and equipment. We took it slow, and didn’t rush to publication.
May 2019 is when we began recording episodes and decided on a May 31st official launch date! To kick it off right—and make it real in the world—we decided to have a launch party with our friends.
Now, I was not too thrilled about the idea at first because the introvert in me would rather hang out with my dog on a Friday night, but I went along with it—and I’m so glad I did!
The party included 30 of some super cool people we both know, food from Moe’s, custom cookies, a yummy ice cream cake, and some info on why we started the podcast AND what the heck a podcast is :)
Thank you to everyone that attended and made the night so special. I might even do another party, this time for my book launch. We’ll see :)
